Q: How does your bedding by design program work? Is this available in your retail stores only or do you offer a catalog? I live in Santa Barbara and unfortunately do not have a store located near to me.
Amanda Larkin
A: We are very excited about our new Bedding-by-Design program. This program works just like our very successful Drapery-by-Design and allows the customer to utilize the same fabric colors and trim combinations to design their own individualized bedding. Initially this program was available only through our stores because of the technical aspect of applying to the website. However, we have been sending out swatches in preparation of the launch and are happy to answer questions and assist in ordering by phone in the meantime. Please look for the Bedding-by-Design to be up and running on the website end of February 2007.

Q: I saw drapes of yours today but they were not available in the width I needed. The name was Judith (I think that is right) and the color is Cowsill. They are exquisite. Can you help me with this? My window is 85” from the frame to floor, and 115”wide. Thank You
Adele Levy, Baton Rouge
A: Hello Adele, We do have a drape called Judith and they can be found in our ready-made drapery collection, Drapery out-of-a Box. These drapes are available in specific sizes and are shipped immediately. However, our ready-made drapery can be customized to accommodate most measurements. In your case we can add a width to each panel and shorten them to 85” long. Custom orders take approximately 4 to 5 weeks to complete. It can be a bit confusing to calculate so we suggest anyone whom needs a customized drape call our customer service department for a quote.

Q: I’ve been referred to your site and am so happy I’ve found it. Before I order anything, I have a question. I live in the Boston area and have a baseboard heater running along the entire bottom of my wall. Would it be ok to use a silk panel drapery that would cover it? Would I damage or fade the fabric over time? Thank you for any advise.
Jean Engleton
A: If you have a gas heater, I have not heard of long-term damage to drapery if the heater is at a comfortable setting and the drapes are not directly touching the baseboard. I would also suggest your drapery be lined and interlined. How many months out of the year you use your heating system is also a factor. Drapery drawn open to frame the window (decorative) is probably more ideal so that the heat is not trapped behind your panels obstructing the flow of air to your rooms and subjecting them to a constant amount of heat. If the heater is electric we highly discourage the use of floor length window treatments, as this would be a fire hazard.

Q: I am going to order an inverted pleat drape from your Drapery-by-Design. I understand how to order the drapery, however, I do not understand the lining options. What is the difference between lined and interlined? I was also wondering if you offer room darkening/ blackout lining?
Justine Valencia
A: The difference in our lining depends on the function and effect you desire from your drapes. Our Drapery-by-Design uses a decorative lining that is 100% cotton and eggshell in color. It is a nicer weight and a better quality than your standard lining, however it will create a less full looking drape. The interlining is suggested for drapery that is subject to intense sun exposure, rooms such as bedrooms that need more coverage (with lining and interlining you block out approximately 90% of light) or formal rooms where a heavy “ball gown” effect is desired. Black out lining is available for custom drapery only. Please call our customer service department for a quote.

Q: I recently ordered the Lily Drapery out-of-a Box in Tiara. This style had a beautiful silk organza flange attached on the bottom in a coordinating color. Can I order some of the organza fabric from you in that color? If so how many yards can I order?
Joan Sampson, Allentown, PA
A: Some of the fabrics we offer in our ready-made drapery are not available by the yard. However, there are exceptions. Many times we are able to supply a customer with fabric used on an exclusive Drapery out-of-a Box style for co-coordinated bedding, roman shades or other home furnishing projects. This is information you can find out easily by calling one of our customer service representatives.
